Welcome to Class ~
I am a Professional Licensed Therapist, with a focus in Lomi Lomi, Sports, Thai, Trigger Point Therapy and Reflexology. I also do facial massages, Lymphatic Drainage, Shiatsu, Facial massage and others. Very high quality massage, great for athletes, hard workers, chronic pain and health conditions like Lymphedema (except renal failure, massage is contraindicated). Can do relaxing lighter pressure massage as well, I practice Tai Chi and the limbs flow like waves, continuously in motion. I spent way longer than I needed to on studying and haven't stopped since. I also tutor, am close to receiving my MTI and plan on encouraging effective massage with my fellow passionate practitioners.
Modalities ~ (explanations)
·Lomi Lomi: Hawaiian methodology using mostly forearms to perform continuous strokes, when reaching one end of the body the therapist pivots on the elbow, reverses the arm, and goes back the other direction. Extremely relaxing, moderate to deep pressure.
·Sports: More deep, vigorous massage, including some stretching, contract-release, pin and stretch for isolating dysfunctional muscles, and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (active-resist isometric contraction).
·Thai: Lots of compressions, traction, torsion, and energy line work, and many stretches. Thai is traditionally a pretty deep massage. Can be done fully clothed, so no need to be shy. If you're in real pain I recommend it!
·Reflexology: Great for hands and feet, plantar fasciitis and neuropathy. If you work with your hands, I can throw in at least 10 free extra minutes of thorough handwork to get you ready for your next shift.
·Lymphatic Drainage: (I took a 6 CE class, not the 40 hour one for Certified Lymphedema Specialists, so not quite medical grade) It's a lighter pressure session, aimed at promoting the flow of stagnant Lymph fluid, which resides largely in the subepidermal lymphatic plexus, underneath the skin but above muscle tissue. Helps with swollen lymph nodes, lipoma, lymphedema, and even clogged sinuses.
·Trigger Point Therapy: Focus on knots, adhesions and tight spots in restricted muscles that have reached the point of reduced blood flow. Without blood, ATP (energy from the mitochondria) doesn't reach the muscles, which is needed for actin and myosin to decouple, and release the muscle contraction. By applying pressure into the belly of the tight muscle, we stimulate the golgi tendon organs, which then send signals to the mechanoreceptors to relax the muscle. Very simplified explanation, please ask me for more details! (only briefly touched on the energy crisis model and sliding filament theory)
·Prenatal: Massage for expecting mothers, featuring side-lying techniques and lots of pillows for comfort. Mostly aims to ease the discomfort of pregnancy.
·Shiatsu: I'm not the most experienced Shiatsu practitioner, but this modality is all about promoting balance in the flow of Chi, calming excess and replenishing deficiency. I do compressions along the meridians, usually done on a mat, and fully clothed. Great for older clients and it does include some gentler Thai stretches, helps with mobility and full body function.
No funny business , I stand on business ! I'm going full science on em.
